Cleveland Indians Pitchers and Catchers Report to Camp Today

Today marks the unofficial, official start of Spring Training for the Cleveland Indians as pitchers and catchers are reporting to camp.  While many look to a certain groundhog in Pennsylvania to help them determine how much winter is left, for me it’s all about this day. Baseball is officially back, which means spring and warmer weather are right around the corner.

By my count, there are 31 pitchers that should be reporting today, with 21 being on the 40-man roster and 10 non-roster invitees.  There are at least five catchers reporting today with Tony Wolters a possible sixth if he clears waivers and remains with the organization after being designated for assignment last week.

Here’s a quick look at all the pitchers and catchers that will be in big league camp with the Indians:

Over the next seven weeks, the Cleveland Indians will whittle these lists down to 12 or 13 pitchers and (barring anything crazy) two catchers.  Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez are locks and much of the pitching is known; however, the battles for the last rotation spot and last bullpen spots are going to be things to keep an eye on. Guys like Joba Chamberlain, Joe Thatcher, Dan Otero, Craig Stammen, Shawn Armstrong, Austin Adams and others may not be sexy names but any one (or more) could play pivotal roles with the 2016 team.

Next: Jason Giambi to Join Club as Guest Instructor

The first full workout for pitchers and catchers will take place this Friday, February 19th and battles for the final pitching spots will officially begin.  The rest of the team will report early next week and full-team workouts begin shortly thereafter.  Exciting times ahead for baseball fans!  So which pitchers and catchers are you most looking forward to seeing this spring?  Do you get as excited as I do when players report?  Let us know in the comments down below.
