Cleveland Indians: Ben Zobrist; No More Small Market Excuses

Small markets, free agents, and the podcast returns

It’s never too early to start looking at possible moves the Cleveland Indians could make this offseason. One that seems a bit of a stretch–but not really–is Ben Zobrist. The do-it-all utilityman was highly coveted at the trade deadline as his name was mentioned with several contenders at the time before ending up with the Royals. He’s the type of player Terry Francona loves to have, and if the Tribe have him, that means the Royals don’t.

The small market excuse for teams is growing old, especially as many small market teams are beginning to contend. The Indians have used it, but they’ve also been right on the cusp recently. It seems to be a valid excuse when you’re losing. The Indians front office needs to drop the blame game and show they want to build a winner. Not play the size of the market game.

And the Wahoo’s on the Mic podcast makes its triumphant return as our host Merritt Rohlfing sits down Dave Holcomb–a writer and Tigers fan–to see if the end has arrived for Detroit or if they will return to glory. If not, boy they’re paying Miguel Cabrera a lot to be good on a bad team.
