The Seattle Mariners

The Mariners started the year with Dustin Ackley in the OF, but he’s hit just .210/.266/.359 on the year.  He was initially being replaced by Brad Miller out there (a natural shortstop), but has since been replaced by Mark Trumbo, whom the Mariners acquired from the Diamondbacks via a trade.  Trumbo has been anything but what the Mariners had hoped for in LF.  Since joining the Mariners Trumbo has hit just .212/.255/.299 just six extra base hits in 145 plate appearances.

Given how far the Mariners have fallen out of the standings (they’re just one game ahead of Cleveland) they may decide to stand pat, especially since Murphy may just be a two month rental. But I’ve learned never to count out the Mariners when it comes to the Indians trading mediocre players.  Tribe did land Shin-Soo Choo for Ben Broussard and Asdrubal Cabrera for Eduardo Perez (who retired after the season).  Mariners don’t seem like a great fit given their current standing but again, I wouldn’t completely rule them out.
