Outfielder – Jerry Sands

I’ve talked about Sands several times this season, but clearly the notion was he didn’t fit into the Indians plans and there was no reason to keep him up. The Indians were lucky that he cleared waivers and remained part of the organization, and he could be a benefit to this offense in the second half.

While his numbers looked good while he was up for 10 games early in the season, they are far from what we should expect from him on a regular basis. But Sands continues to hit for power and drive in runs while more recently showing a good eye at the plate for Columbus. With 37 walks and 37 strikeouts, he’s one of very few that hasn’t whiffed more than he’s walked in the International League.

The struggles of this offense are real. Sands has been around for a few years and appears to have made some adjustments to his game. While not a long-term option for the Tribe, right now they need something to help jump-start the offense and Sands could help do just that. The Tribe would have to make a roster move to clear room, as Sands is not on the 40-man.
