Cleveland Indians Rained Out; Double-header Notes; Tribe Sellers?
The rain forces the Cleveland Indians to play a doubleheader Sunday
Yesterday was a day devoid of Indians baseball, as the Indians-Orioles game was rained out. The team will play a doubleheader today, with one game at 1:35 pm and another at 7:05 pm. Cody Anderson, who was supposed to pitch last night, will take the mound on Monday.
Trevor Bauer will start the first game tomorrow, and he will look to turn things around after a promising start to the season. The right-hander pitched very well in April and May but has imploded in two of his four June starts so far. Allowing 24 of his 36 earned runs in just four of his fourteen starts, Bauer has tended to either pitch very well or very poorly so far this season. Hopefully, he can show a bit more consistency – and better command – through the rest of the season.
Japanese pitcher Toru Murata will make his big league debut to start the night game tomorrow. The thirty-year-old first reached Triple-A with the Tribe back in 2012; however, he did not settle into Triple-A until last season when he split the year between Double-A and Triple-A. This year has been one of the right-hander’s better seasons, and while he has not shown the strikeout potential that he did four years ago, he has pitched to a 2.79 ERA. His 3.75 FIP, however, is less optimistic.
Finally, July is approaching, meaning that the trade deadline will be among us shortly. With this in mind, Nicholas D. Blazek wondered if the Cleveland Indians are obvious sellers. The team currently sits six games under .500 and sports just a 23.5% chance of making the playoffs, according to FanGraphs.
