The Cleveland Indians Sign Top Draft Pick Brady Aiken

On Friday, the Cleveland Indians inked their first round pick Brady Aiken.  The real news, however, came today as it was finally made known just how much he signed for, which turned out to be $2,513,280.

As Callis said, slot for the 17th overall pick was $2,393,600.  It was always assumed that Aiken would require the Indians to go over slot given his high ceiling and the fact that he was the top overall pick in 2014 (and turned down over $5M).  Like Callis, I too am a bit surprised that Aiken only got a little over two and a half million.  For one, he was simply a great talent who at only 18 had options to stay in school and re-enter the draft a couple more times.  But secondly was the amount of money the Indians have saved to this point in their draft signings.
