Lindor will make first career start against Cubs
After making his debut with a not so graceful Major League debut, the
Francisco Lindorwill get his first star against the Chicago Cubs–a team that’s had their share of notable debuts this season as well. The Tribe will send
Trevor Bauer(5-3, 3.53) to the mound, and he comes off his shortest outing of the season in which he lasted just 3 2/3 innings. He’ll be opposed by
Jake Arrieta(6-4, 3.16), who has faced the Indians, but not since coming to Chicago.
The Indians (29-33) have fallen in line with the youth movement that seems to be sweeping the league. The Cubs have seen the debuts of Kris Bryant and Addison Russell, while the Twins have called up Byron Buxton. Now, the Indians have joined in after promoting Giovanny Urshela, and now Lindor.
Lindor was able to collect his first career hit but took a tumble rounding first. Hopefully, he’s got the jitters out of the way now. He’ll make his first start, and will be batting second in the lineup as Carlos Santana will drop to the clean-up spot. Tribe starter Bauer has never faced the Cubs in his career.
He’ll be tasked with slowing down the Cubs (34-27) aforementioned young stars, including Bryant who is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak in which he’s hitting .372. The Cubs have hung their hat on their young players this season to succeed, and so far it has as they’re seven games over .500 for the first time since 2009.
Now the Indians will look to Lindor and Urshela to help them do the same, as they’ve recently dropped five of their last seven.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 pm ET at Wrigley Field. Here are the lineups for tonight’s matchup:
