Is Scott Atchison’s ankle to blame for his struggles; the best Cleveland Indians Cy Young Season; and the Wroundtable returns.
Just the other day, the Cleveland Indians placed Scott Atchison on the 15-day disabled list with an injury to his left ankle. This season has been quite terrible for the 39-year-old, and his 5.74 ERA is supported by an even worse FIP – although his xFIP and SIERA suggest better results. These struggles led Matt Bretz to wonder if Atchison’s ankle had any impact on his results, and monthly splits seem to support his logic.
Back in August, the Tribe extended the right-hander through 2015 with an option for 2016, and we at Wahoo’s on First had mixed feeling about the contract, which led to a special edition Wroundtable. How did our predictions and opinions work out? Read the piece to find out!
Speaking of the Wroundtable, this week’s edition featured another veteran pitcher, Shaun Marcum, and predictions for his future as the Indians’ fifth starter. In other news, Corey Kluber is dominating lineups. This year he leads the American League in FIP, WAR, and strikeouts, and he has arguably played better this year than last year’s Cy Young Award winning performance. With this in mind, Katrina Putnam investigated past Cleveland Indians’ Cy Young Award winning seasons to see who pitched the best.
