Corey Kluber wins AL Pitcher of the Month for September

Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber was voted the AL Pitcher of the Month for September on Tuesday, and for good reason. The right-hander sported a 5-1 record with a 2.09 ERA and 56/7 K/BB ratio in 43 innings of work during the final month of the season. He had the most strikeouts (Carlos Carrasco was second with 54) and tied for the most wins of all qualified pitchers in that time.

Kluber’s breakout season has put him right at the top of the American League Cy Young award discussion. In 2014 he was fourth in the league in wins, seventh in ERA and finished just two strikeouts behind David Price of the Detroit Tigers for the league lead. The consensus is that his stiffest competition will come from Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.
