The Carolina Mudcats (47-50) pounded out 18 hits en route to a 17-2 romp over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (60-38).
Ryan Merritt (10-3, 2.13 ERA) was the beneficiary of the run support but was his usual outstanding self delivering a quality start going 6.2 innings allowing two runs (both earned0 on four hits while striking out nine and walking none.
Every member of the Mudcats lineup had at least one hit with mutli-hit games going to shortstop Erik Gonzalez, catcher Jeremy Lucas, designated hitter Alex Monsalve, and left fielder Jerrud Sabourin led the way with five hits.
Sabourin was the star of the game going five for six and hitting for the cycle. He entered his final plate appearance on the night already with four hits including a homer, double, and a pair of singles. Facing knuckleballer Kevin Pucetas he lined a double into the left field corner to complete the cycle.
According to MiLB.com (LINK) it was the 18th cycle in the minors this season.
With the big night Sabourin, who was signed by the Indians as a undrafted free agent out of Indiana University in 2011, has raised his season slash line to .2968/.360/.400.
