Danny Salazar Dominates Louisville In Clippers 10-1 Victory

The Columbus Clippers had an offensive explosion against the Louisville Bats pounding out 17 hits en route to a 10-1 victory (BOX).

The story of the game wasn’t the lumber in the batters box but rather the man standing in the center of the diamond wearing #43 on the back of his jersey.

That man is Danny Salazar and the Indians hope he can put it all together in Columbus and return to help the team hopefully at some point this season. Tonight he delivered his best outing since being demoted to the Clippers by being able to spot his fastball (94-95 mph) while commanding his off-speed pitches (see GIF’s below).

The result was a solid effort enabling him to work into the eighth inning and top his season high pitch count at 105 pitches including 74 for strikes. His previous high pitch count was 104 on May 25th against the Tampa Bay Rays Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls.

His final line was 7.1 innings of work allowing one run (earned) on five hits striking out nine and walking none. The one run the Louisville Bats scored off him came in the first inning when Ruben Gotay lofted a fly ball down the left field line and Tim Federoff was unable to track it resulting in a double. Gotay came in to score on a 2-out Donald Lutz single.

In his previous six starts with the Clippers he allowed exactly one home run in each start. The last start that he did not allow a home run came as a member of the Cleveland Indians rotation way back on May 7th against the Minnesota Twins.

The Clippers offense had 17 hits led by Tyler Holt and Roberto Perez who each had three hits. Perez’s night included two doubles and five runs driven in.

Salazar was replaced by Austin Adams who delivered his 11th straight scoreless appearance retiring the last two batters of the eighth inning before handing the ball to Bryan Price for the ninth.

Price allowed a lead off double to Ray Navarro but left him stranded their to end the ballgame.

Over his last three starts he has posted a 1-2 record with a 3.43 ERA ( 7ER/18.1IP) striking out 25 and walking just five. To get an idea of the type of control he had with his arsenal check out the GIF’s below.
