Salazar Plagued By Long Ball Once Again

Danny Salazar made his second start for the Cleveland Indians Triple-A affiliate Columbus Clipper since coming of the 7-day disabled list with a sore triceps. He was charged with the loss as the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs defeated the Clippers 4-3.

Once again he showed the ability to strike hitters out fanning nine while walking only two in his five innings of work but allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits including another home run.

More from Cleveland Guardians Prospects

Overall, in his five starts with the Clippers he has an ERA of 6.35 (16ER/22.1IP) and the opposition has posted a triple slash line of .316/.382/.531 and he has allowed five home runs (equally distributed at one per start).

Salazar has an electric arm but has never been afforded the time to learn the art of pitching. He has never routinely been asked to navigate a lineup a second or third time through. Now he finds  himself in Triple-A fighting off arm fatigue which landed him on the disabled list and is going to be given all the time he needs to craft his skill.

Of course, there are encouraging signs. He threw 95 pitches which shows that the organization feels that whatever ailment irritated him to land him on the disabled list is not serious. He also registered a season high (at any level) swings and misses with 18.
