Last Thursday he was matched up against the Tampa Bay Rays first round draft pick Ryan Stanek from Arkansas who was making his major league debut as he returns from off-season hip surgery.
While Stanek pitched well allowing just one earned run in five innings of work it was Plutko who stole the show giving the Lake County Captains eight scoreless innings of work on three hits striking out 13 and walking none.
For his effort he was rewarded by being named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week.
Overall through seven starts on the season he is 2-0 with a 3.31 ERA (13ER/35.1IP) and leads the Midwest League with 49 strikeouts while only walking 10 in his 35.1 innings of work.
