Ubaldo Jimenez Expected To Decline Qualifying Offer

Yesterday, Indians General Manager Chris Antonetti was on MLB Network Radio and was unsure as to whether or not Ubaldo Jimenez would accept or decline the qualifying offer of $14.1M extended to him.

This moring Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to decline the qualifying offer and test the free agent waters.

In his article Hoynes notes that besides Jimenez the Indians are unlikely to re-sign Scott Kazmir, Matt Albers, or Joe Smith.

He projects the Indians payroll to be around $80M of which approximately $70M is already accounted for.

He discusses the possibility of a Justin Masterson contract extension this winter, the need to add a veteran arm to the rotation, and the improvements from the 2012 offseason to today.
