Two things are clearly evident from watching both of this year’s League Championship Series. The first is that one swing of the bat can completely alter the course of events. The second is that with quality pitching anything is possible.

We saw the on Sunday night how one mighty swing of David Ortiz‘s bat completely changed the landscape of the ALCS. The Red Sox went from being down two games to none with the prospect of heading to Detroit for a date with Justin Verlander to tied at one game all and with new life and the return of their swagger. If nothing else, Sunday’s improbable victory gave the Red Sox a slightly larger margin of error for yesterday than what it otherwise would have been. There is a lot less pressure knowing that losing to Justin Verlander doesn’t put you into a next to impossible situation down 0-3.
