This Week In Indians Baseball: Week 21

It was another hard week for the Indians, who finished a West Coast road trip with a sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners and then came home and played host to the New York Yankees who took two out of three. Overall, the Indians went 1-5 in the 21^st week.

• Game 122: Mariners 5, Indians 3

W: Charlie Furbush, L: Joe Smith

The late innings proved to be a roadblock in the Indians’ loss on Monday night in Seattle. After leading 3-2 through five and a half innings, the Mariners were able to plate three runs in the fifth and six innings for the lead. Jason Kipnis led off the game with a home run and later added another RBI. Ubaldo Jimenez got the no-decision after leaving the game with the score knotted up at 3-3. He went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. (full recap here)

Game 123: Mariners 5, Indians 1

W: Felix Hernandez, L: Roberto Hernandez

Felix Hernanez dominated the Tribe through 7.2 innings, while Roberto Hernandez was solid through six innings, until the Mariners started to make noise in the seventh inning. The Indians’ lone run came in the seventh inning off a Casey Kotchman single, scoring Carlos Santana. Roberto Hernandez posted a line of six innings pitched with four runs on three hits and two walks and two strikeouts. (full recap here)

• Game 124: Mariners 3, Indians 1

W: Stephen Pryor, L: Vinnie Pestano

The Mariners had an early run in the first inning on a solo home run, but starter Zach McAllister limited the damage and held Seattle to three hits and three walks with only one earned run through six innings with four strikeouts. Casey Kotchman came through for the Tribe in the sixth inning with a single, scoring Shin-Soo Choo. Vinnie Pestano had a rare bad outing as Seattle took the lead in the eighth. (full recap here)

• Game 125: Yankees 3, Indians 1

W: CC Sabathia, L: Cody Allen

Corey Kluber appeared to be in trouble at the outset of the first inning after back-to-back doubles from Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher brought home a run, followed by a walk. Kluber was able to escape the inning with limited damage and worked out of multiple jams through the course of the game to limit the Yankees to one run on six hits and two walks through five innings. The Indians tied the game in the fourth on an Asdrubal Cabrera home run. The game remained tied until the top of the seventh when Swisher had a two-run bomb off Allen. (full recap here)

Game 126: Indians 3, Yankees 1

W: Justin Masterson, L: Hiroki Kuroda

Masterson provided just what the Indians needed: a good outing from a starter. In the bottom of the first, the Indians got on board on a Michael Brantley three-run homer. That was the only support Masterson would need as he guided the Tribe through 6.2 innings, while allowing only one run on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Vinnie Pestano provided 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Chris Perez got the save. (full recap here)

• Game 127: Yankees 4, Indians 2

W: Boone Logan, L: Ubaldo Jimenez

The Yankees didn’t waste time, scoring three runs in the top of the second. The Indians came within striking distance with two runs in the bottom of the fifth with a Carlos Santana single, scoring Jason Kipnis and Asdrubal Cabrera. New York responded in the top of the sixth with another run to round out the score. Jimenez surrendered three runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings with four strikeouts. (full recap here)
