This Week In Indians Baseball: Week 19

The Indians carried a losing streak into the 19^th week of the season, but brought it to an end during the finale of the series with the Minnesota Twins. They went on to split a four-game series at home with the Boston Red Sox.

• Game 109: Twins 14, Indians 3

W: Scott Diamond, L: Zach McAllister

The rookie McAllister had pitched relatively well since being called up to the big leagues earlier in the season, but he hit a snag on Monday night. The Twins pounded McAllister in the second inning with nine runs. Josh Tomlin came on in relief, allowing one run in the second and two more. Tony Sipp and Esmil Rogers each allowed one run. Cody Allen and Joe Smith each pitched a scoreless inning. The Indians scored in the first on a double play with the bases loaded that scored Jason Kipnis. Carlos Santana hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning. (full recap here)

• Game 110: Twins 7, Indians 5

W: Tyler Robertson, L: Chris Perez

Though a costly error threatened the Indians’ lead in the seventh inning when the Twins were able to plate three runs, it was a blown save from Perez that proved to be the difference in Tuesday night’s game. Corey Kluber gave the Indians just what they needed in a strong six-inning effort. Kluber allowed only one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts. With a one-run lead, Perez struggled to get outs in the ninth and surrendered two runs. Shelley Duncan had a two-run homer for the Tribe in the second. (full recap here)

Game 111: Indians 6, Twins 2

W: Justin Masterson, L: Brian Duensing

The Indians brought their 11-game skid to a halt on Wednesday night in a series finale victory over the Twins. Masterson kept the Tribe in the game in his solid outing, pitching seven innings. He allowed two runs on only three hits with seven strikeouts. Vinnie Pestano and Esmil Rogers each pitched an inning of scoreless relief. At the plate, the Indians were led by Shin-Soo Choo’s four-hit performance. Choo doubled in the bottom of the first, bringing home Jason Kipnis to give the Tribe the early lead. Choo scored on a single from Carlos Santana. Choo added another RBI in the second. Along with Choo and Santana, Kipnis, Cabrera and Kotchman each had an RBI. (full recap here)

• Game 112: Indians 5, Red Sox 3

W: Ubaldo Jimenez, L:Felix Doubront

Jimenez gave the Indians another solid outing from the rotation. He powered past the Red Sox over six innings with ten strikeouts. He allowed three runs on eight hits. Tony Sipp and Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless inning apiece. Chris Perez put his recent struggles behind him and nailed down his 30^th save of the season. Jason Donald led of the bottom half of the first inning with a home run. A three-run fifth inning helped push the Tribe to victory with Asdrubal Cabrera, Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley all contributing. (full recap here)

• Game 113: Red Sox 3, Indians 2

W: Clay Buchholz, L: Chris Seddon

A first-inning home run off the bat of Asdrubal Cabrera seemed to put the Indians on the right foot, but Buchholz dominated the Indians’ at the plate for the rest of the game. The Indians only scratched out one more run in sixth with an Ezequiel Carerra sac fly, scoring Jason Donald. Buchholz held the Tribe to two hits. Though not as dominate as Buchholz, Seddon pitched a good game. His only big mistake game in the top of the sixth when he allowed a two-run homer to Cody Ross. (full recap here)

• Game 114: Indians 5, Red Sox 2

W: Zach McAllister, L: Franklin Morales

The Indians got offensive help from an unexpected source on Saturday night. Brent Lillibridge homered in the bottom of the third to get the Tribe on the board. The Red Sox came back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth on a double with the bases loaded. After two runs came home, Shelly Duncan was able to nail Dustin Pedroia at the plate. Lillibridge struck again in the fifth with a single, scoring Michael Brantley. In the sixth, Brantley brought home Asdrubal Cabrera on a sac fly. Lou Marson perfectly executed a squeeze bunt in the seventh to bring home Lillibridge. Ezequiel Carerra added the final run on a single to score Carlos Santana in the eighth. McAllister pitched a gem. Through eight innings, he only allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four. Chris Perez topped off the game with his 31^st save of the season. (full recap here)

Game 115: Red Sox 14, Indians 1

W: Jon Lester, L: Corey Kluber

Kluber was coming off of a solid start on Tuesday and Lester was trying to rebound after a series of lackluster starts. Unfortunately for the Tribe, the rookie Kluber, who was making his third major league start this season, did not carry the momentum into Sunday’s game. He was roughed up and removed from the game after 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. Josh Tomlin and Frank Hermann added to the problems on the mound by allowing eight combined runs over 3.2 innings. Lester was able to accomplish his goal with the Indians only able to scratch out three hits of him with five hits total. Their lone run came in the first inning on a sac fly from Carlos Santana, scoring Jason Donald. (full recap here)
