This Week In Indians Baseball: Week 18

The 18^th week of the season was one to forget as the Indians lost all six games to the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers as part of a nine-game losing streak. 

• Game 103: Royals 8, Indians 3

W: Luke Hochevar, L: Derek Lowe

The Indians kept up with the Royals for the first few innings of the game, with the game tied at 3-3 after the first two-and-a-half innings. The Royals used a five-run bottom of the third to down the Indians. Neither team would score after the third inning. Casey Kotchman and Johnny Damon each had an RBI single in the top of the second and Asdrubal Cabrera scored in the top of the third on a wild pitch on Hochevar. Lowe was roughed around early and was forced to make an early exit after only 2.1 innings and seven runs on eight hits and two walks. Josh Tomlin came on in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing one run on three hits. Jeremy Accardo and Joe Smith combined for three innings of scoreless relief. (full recap here) 

• Game 104: Royals 5, Indians 2

W: Luis Mendoza, L: Zach McAllister

McAllister has been a steady force in the rotation for the Tribe since being called up to the Majors this season, but he struggled in his outing on Wednesday. The rookie allowed four runs in the first two innings. He settled down afterwards. He went six innings total, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. The Indians scored runs on a Carlos Santana home run and an Asdrubal Cabrera single, scoring Jack Hannahan. (full recap here)

Game 105: Royals 7, Indians 6

W: Aaron Crow, L: Chris Perez

The start didn’t look promising, with the Indians facing a six run deficit after Corey Kluber struggled in his the first inning of his Major League debut. He settled after that first inning and the Indians began chipping away at the Royals’ lead. The Tribe tied the game on a two-run homer by Carlos Santana. Neither team was able to plate a run until the bottom of the eleventh inning when the Royals’ Alcides Escobar singled to bring home Eric Homer. (full recap here)

• Game 106: Tigers 10, Indians 2

W: Anibal Sanchez, L: Justin Masterson

The Indians’ slump hit the one-week mark on Friday evening with a weak performance from Masterson and poor hitting. Masterson was tattooed for seven runs on ten hits and four walks over four innings, while striking out four. The Indians scored when Shin-Soo Choo singled to bring home Ezequiel Carrera and Jason Kipnis grounded out, bringing home Jack Hannahan. (full recap here)

• Game 107: Tigers 6, Indians 1

W: Doug Fister, L: Ubaldo Jimenez

It was much of the same for the Indians who failed to get a quality start from Jimenez and couldn’t execute at the plate. Jimenez allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings. The Indians’ only run came when Jason Kipnis grounded out, bringing home Ezequiel Carerra who had tripled earlier in the inning. (full recap here)

Game 108: Tigers 10, Indians 8

W: Darin Downs, L: Chris Perez

The Indians dropped their ninth consecutive game on Sunday in heartbreaking fashion. The two teams battled back and forth for most of the game with a tied game. Josh Tomlin worked out of a ninth inning jam after giving up a lead-off triple to Austin Jackson and walking Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder with one out by getting Quintin Berry to ground into a double play. When Travis Hafner and Ezequiel Carrera had back-to-back home runs and Lou Marson brought home Jack Hannahan on a double in the top of the tenth, it seemed that the Indians might win their first game in over a week. Chris Perez struggled with two outs in the bottom half of the inning. After walking two batters, he gave up a run on a double, two more to tie the game on a double and the two winning runs on a home run off he bat of Cabrera. (full recap here)
