This Week In Indians Baseball: Week 10

The tenth week of the season was one to forget as the Indians fell to just one game above .500 with a record of 1-5. The Tribe opened the week a sweep at the hands of the Reds, then came home to open up a series with the Pirates with a win before dropping the next two.

Game 60: Reds 7, Indians 1

W: Johnny Cueto, L: Jeanmar Gomez

It was a close game until the ball was handed over to the bullpen in Tuesday’s loss to the Reds. Cincinnati struck on a Joey Votto home run in the seventh and Jeremy Accardo was tattooed for another three runs in the eighth inning as the Reds ran up the score. (full recap here)

• Game 61: Reds 5, Indians 3

W: Mat Latos, L: Derek Lowe

The Indians got their first two runs on groundouts as they tried to battle back from an early deficit. Brandon Phillips led the way as the Reds outmatched the Tribe. Jose Lopez started to stage a comeback in the top of the ninth, sending a ball over the fence, but it was too late and the Indians dropped the second game of the series. (full recap here) 

• Game 62: Reds 12, Indians 5

W: Jose Arredondo, L: Josh Tomlin

Shin-Soo Choo got things started right for the Tribe by opening the game with a leadoff home run and the Indians added another run in the first inning on a groundout. But the Reds would strike right back in the bottom of the inning and continued to pile on the runs. Choo did it again in the top of the fifth with another leadoff homer and another pair of runs crossed the plate in the seventh on groundouts. Those were the only runs the Tribe would muster with the pitchers battered by big innings for the Reds. (full recap here)

• Game 63: Indians 2, Pirates 0

W: Justin Masterson, L: James McDonald

Justin Masterson dominated on the mound and completely shut down the Pirates. Masterson’s strong outing eased the pressure in the batter’s box. The Indians got their first run on a groundball double just inside the third base line, scoring Asdrubal Cabrera. Michael Brantley added an insurance run on a single to center field, scoring Shin-Soo Choo. Chris Perez was able to come in and shut things out. (full recap here)

Game 64: Pirates 9, Indians 2

W: A.J. Burnett, L: Ubaldo Jimenez

The Indians continued to struggle to hit with runners in scoring position on Saturday, ultimately leading to another loss. Ubaldo Jimenez got the start, scattering four runs over six innings on seven hits. Nick Hagadone struggled on the mound, allowing another four runs in the top of the ninth on three hits and four walks. The Indians’ only two runs came on home runs from Asdrubal Cabrera and Casey Kotchman. (full recap here)

• Game 65: Pirates 9, Indians 5

W: Tony Watson, L: Jeanmar Gomez

Asdrubal Cabrera had a rough day on the field with three errors, and they were a major factor in the Indians’ loss to the Pirates. Jason Kipnis got the scoring started early with a home run in the bottom of the first. Casey Kotchman singled home a run in the second, Shin-Soo Choo brought home two more on a double in the fourth and Michael Brantley rounded out the Indians’ scoring with a double in the seventh. The Pirates were able to capitalize on the errors made by Cabrera, scoring all nine of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings. (full recap here)
