It’s still Opening Day for the Cleveland Indians, but it doesn’t feel like a good time to celebrate. In case you missed it, the Indians took a 4-1 lead into the ninth inning before Chris Perez blew the save and the Toronto Blue Jays tied the game. The score remained knotted up at 4-4 until J.P. Arencibia‘s three-run homer in the top of the 16th put Toronto on top, 7-4.
To recap the game now wouldn’t do justice to the agony of the almost-five-and-a-half-hour game and the crushing frustration that followed when the Indians lost. Instead, here’s the story of the game through some Wahoo’s on First writers’ tweets (including Katie Hendershot, who was there to see the Tribe’s misfortunes live). See if you can detect our joyful optimism slowly fading away.

It was clear that Pestano would emerge as the better choice to close at some point this year. Was hoping it would take more than one game.

...and we get a free extra base. The baseball gods giveth and the baseball gods taketh away.

That is inexcusable Asdrubal. He just wanted to be the hero, now he may have cost the Indians the game

In the time it took the Indians to reach the 16 I took a test, took a 40 minute bus ride and took a train from Providence to NYC
— Geordy Boveroux (@Boveroux_Vino) April 5, 2012
You have got to be kidding me.
— Lewie Pollis (@LewsOnFirst) April 6, 2012
Well....at least Arencibia's on my fantasy team? Oh god what's wrong with me.
