Progressive Field 2012 Promotional Schedule Full of Excitement

The aroma of hot dogs and the sound of the crack of the bat will soon fill the air, but those aren’t the only draws that bring fans to the ballpark . In less than a month, Progressive Field will open its gates for the 2012 season and the turnstiles will be spinning. Few Tribe fans will need excuses to fill the stadium seats at the outset as they get their first Indians fix since the conclusion of last season. But if the excitement of a new season isn’t enough, the Indians have lined up a great series of promotions that will fill the schedule for the 2012 season and undoubtedly bring more fans to the ballpark.

Similarities to previous season’s promotions can be found throughout the 2012 schedule. Popular draws like Dollar Dog Night, Student ID Night and Friday Night Fireworks will return. Fans will find traditional giveaways like bobbleheads and replica jerseys in their hands as they walk through the gates on select nights.

There will be a lot of hot dogs consumed at Progressive Field on nine Dollar Dog Nights in 2012. Dollar Dog Night is always a big draw for the Indians and is consistently one of the most popular promotions over the course of the season. The first game to offer hotdogs for the price of a dollar is Wednesday, April 25.

On Thursday and Friday nights, there is likely to be an influx of college students at the ballpark. Instead of only a few select Student ID Nights throughout the season as in the past, students will have the opportunity to take in a game with discounted tickets for all Thursday and Friday home games in 2012.

The Indians have always put on spectacular fireworks displays, with the crowd-pleasing Rock ‘N Blast as the pinnacle of the summer pyrotechnic shows at Carnegie and Ontario. There are a total of fourteen scheduled fireworks displays in 2012, starting on Friday, May 4 and continuing every Friday home game through September 14. Fans will pack Progressive Field for the annual tradition of Rock ‘N Blast on July 20 and 21. There will also be fireworks at two Saturday games (June 2 and August 25) and one Tuesday game (July 3).

The first giveaway of the season is Opening Day, when the all fans will receive a magnet schedule, presented by Progressive Insurance. There are five bobblehead giveaways sprinkled throughout the season, all but one of will honor of an Indians alumnus. Fans will have the opportunity to collect Joe Carter (May 20), Carlos Baerga (June 3), Sandy Alomar Jr. (July 4), and team Hall of Fame inductee Gaylord Perry (Aug. 12) bobbleheads. Asdrubal Cabrera (June 18) is the only player on the current roster to be represented as a bobblehead in the 2012 season. The first 15,000 fans to each game will receive the bobbleheads.

There will be four replica jersey giveaways throughout the course of the 2012 season to the first 15,000 fans at each game. One former member of the Tribe, Charlie Nagy (July 22), will have his jersey reproduced and given away to the fans. Fans also have the opportunity to receive Chris Perez (May 5), Justin Masterson (May 28) and Carlos Santana (June 17) jerseys.

Fill the House for Charity will also make a return to Progressive Field this season, but instead of Wednesday nights, the initiative will take place on twelve Tuesday nights over the course of the season. Some of the Northeast Ohio non-profit organizations that will benefit from the efforts of the Tribe are Our Lady of the Wayside, the Cleveland Animal Protection League and the Special Olympics.

The ballpark will go to the dogs on two nights with the return of Puppypalooza, with gives fans the opportunity to bring their canine friends to the ballpark. In previous seasons, the promotion was offered only once a season. This year, man’s best friends will be welcome on both May 16 and Aug. 29.

The Indians will offer three postgame concerts in 2012, each with a different theme. The first will be a faith day concert, held on Saturday, May 19. The next will be targeted at adults and occur after the game on Saturday, July 7. The final postgame concert will be targeted at children and families and will be held on Sunday, July 8.

Rally Alley, a pregame event taking place next to Progressive Field with entertainment and reasonably priced food options, will return after the inaugural season last year, taking place on numerous Fridays and Saturdays. KeyBank Kids Fun Day will also be presented every Sunday of the season beginning on May 6.

With the start of the season just around the corner, it’s time to see fans head out to Progressive Field to root on the Tribe. If the play on the field is not a big enough draw, the Indians have planned a full season’s worth of promotions to keep things exciting and get the fans to the ballpark, whether it’s for a stellar fireworks show or to collect the bobblehead of their favorite player from the past.
