No Non-Tenders for Cleveland

Monday was Major League Baseball’s non-tender deadline for the 2012 season, and the Indians did not cut anyone from the roster, according to the Plain Dealer‘s Paul Hoynes.

Even though they’re under team control, all players not explicitly under contract for the next season must be given a new contract each year in order to remain with the team. Any player that had not been guaranteed a contract by Monday is now a free agent.

Arbitration-eligible players Shin-Soo Choo, Chris Perez, Asdrubal Cabrera, Rafael Perez, Joe Smith, Justin Masterson, and Tony Sipp were all tendered contracts for 2012. None of the seven was a serious non-tender candidate, but each will see their salaries increase next year.

Hannahan, Masterson, and Sipp will all go through arbitration for the first time this winter. All three made between $400,000 and $500,000 in 2011, and each is sure get a raise for 2012.

Choo (earned $3.975 million in 2011), Chris Perez ($2.225 million), and Cabrera ($2.025 million) are all entering their second season of arbitration eligibility, while Rafael Perez ($1.33 million) will be going through the process for the third time. We’ve heard rumors this winter about possible extensions for Choo and for Cabrera.

No players who have yet to reach arbitration were non-tendered either, which was even less of a surprise: each will make close to the minimum MLB wage in 2012, so none project as too expensive for what they’re worth.
