Former Indians Win World Series Rings

Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals for emerging victorious after a fantastic World Series (after Game 7 in 2001, this year’s Game 6 was the best World Series game I’ve ever seen). And special congratulations to the two former Cleveland Indians players who were a part of the Cardinals’ championship run.

Every Indians fan should remember Jake Westbrook, who spent 11 seasons with Cleveland before he was traded to St. Louis last summer. He pitched two scoreless innings in his first Fall Classic and got the win in Game 6 after he shut the Rangers’ offense down in the 11th inning. He probably got a championship ring after pitching 6.2 innings for the Yankees in 2000, but this was the first time he’d played in the World Series himself.

Also making his Fall Classic debut was Arthur Rhodes, who some Tribe fans might not remember—he threw 43.1 superb innings with a 2.08 ERA for Cleveland in 2005. He’s spent 20 seasons with nine different teams, but amazingly this was the first time he’d ever won the pennant. He also made 32 appearances for the Rangers this year, so he was guaranteed a ring either way.

So ends the 2011 MLB season. It was a great year and a thrilling postseason. Perhaps we’ll get to see some playoff action in Cleveland next year.
