Among the Madness, Cuts Begin in Goodyear
March Madness is under way and people tend to forget that baseball is back in less than twenty days. Over the last few days, many notable cuts have happened at spring training.
The most notable cut is that of Lonnie Chisenhall. He was sent to the minor league camp after hitting .478 in spring ball. It was a predictable move by the front office and a smart one.
His highest level of experience comes at AA Akron and he will definitely need some time in Columbus before coming to Cleveland. For everyone who chose Chisenhall being the majors to start the year in our poll, redemption may come in another poll.
Other cuts included Alex White and Jason Kipnis. Once again, these cuts were inevitable for the players. They will continue their development into the players that they should become (opposite of Andy Marte).
With Chisenhall being sent down, the third base position has opened up for the opening day roster. Jason Donald cannot swing a bat after being hit on the hand by a pitch. A possible candidate to backup is Jack Hannahan. His last major league experience came in 2009 for the Mariners.
The season starts April 1 and there are still many questions that need answered.
