Slide Over, Smooth – Supernatural Is Here

Let it never be said I wasn’t willing to compromise.

Since the day the Indians traded Casey F-in Blake to the Dodgers and received Jon Meloan and Carlos Santana, I’ve been pushing to get the nickname “Smooth” to stick for Santana. I thought it was clever, I thought it fit, and it definitely had a nice ring to it: “Smooth” Santana. Kinda rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

While some local Cleveland blogs have embraced the “Smooth” moniker (or variations of it), Anthony Castrovince of Indians.com did not. In any other city, Castrovince would be the best beat writer, but for Cleveland, he will have to settle for second. That’s not a knock on Anthony, think of it more as an endorsement of the Plain Dealer’s Cavaliers beat writer, Brian Windhorst, who is one of, if not the best beat writer in the NBA. Castro is still fantastic though, and is my go-to source for official Tribe news. So I respect Anthony’s opinion, and he has offered an acceptable replacement nickname.

Carlos Santana’s nickname is “Supernatural.”

Although I must admit I still think “Smooth” has a better ring to it, “Supernatural” isn’t bad. It fits Santana’s skill sets, and it doesn’t sound awkward. And since I know DLF doesn’t quite have the following Indians.com has, I think I will get in line and conform on this one. “Supernatural” is an acceptable compromise. And to make it stick it’s going to take everyone getting on board. This needs to happen. Tribe fans must be united on this.

Oh, by the way, the Indians won last night.
