Playing his way onto the Cleveland Guardians' Opening Day roster: Logan Allen
The top of the Cleveland Guardians' starting rotation is pretty much set in stone, leaving opportunities on the back end for a few arms to stake their claim to a spot on the Opening Day roster. One of those arms forcing their way into the conversation would be left-hander Logan Allen.
In four appearances, Allen has allowed just one run on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 in 10.2 innings. The one run allowed came on a solo home run off the bat of Elly De La Cruz in Cleveland's first spring training game. While surrendering a round-tripper is not ideal, it is encouraging to see Allen keep opponents off of the scoreboard since then in addition to the fact that no one is going to hold giving up a long ball to a player of De La Cruz's caliber against him.
Allen bouncing back in 2025 would be a welcome development for the Cleveland Guardians' starting rotation. It was a rough season for Allen in 2024, pitching to a 5.73 ERA, 1.582 WHIP, and 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. While expecting Allen to continue this level of performance once the regular season begins, the fact he has performed thus far bodes well for his chances of making regular appearances for the Guardians this season.
